This is much like choosing between a Ford or a Halfords oil filter. Expect to pay around £150 for genuine remote key using Ford parts. If you go for the aftermarket version, then you may save £20-30. At the back of the pump is a bracket which u have to remove, 2 bolts and 4 small torx bolts. Once off u will see the timing solenoid, remove the 2 holding bolts and gentle price out the old solenoid.
Its an indication that the alternator may be the wrong size though. But don't panic. For the alternator to work it has to generate a magnetic field from its internal windings. Starter is far more unlikely than the alternator as a drain, just unplug at the alternator. You'll need to show the year of the van. 2011 there were significant changes. The 2012 2.2 has a smart alternator and a BMS battery management system. A 7 grove clutch pulley. Alt, one thick wire from/to battery, one thin wire from/to PCM, PCM linked to BCM, BCM linked to BMS and IPC. Was DRRB 74 KW 100 HP 100 cv. Now CYR5 125 HP.

After pulling the negative lead from the battery, find and disassemble each connection on both paths (positive and ground) as either can make carbon, causing resistance. Clean each up with a wire brush, reassemble, test. For example, there are several connections on the positive battery terminal to inspect.
If your battery is draining while driving, it is almost without exception the Transit Connect’s alternator that is causing the problem.
